Psychological Support during Covid 19
Counseling for depression, anxiety and other common emotional implications of coronavirusSo much has changed.
It’s hard to think of anyone who hasn’t been impacted by the pandemic and its implications. The implications are having an effect on our daily lives, and some people feel that like life is so different it’s almost unrecognizable.
Silver linings.
With challenges come silver linings, and there are many of these too, and we encourage you to find those where you can. Perhaps you can find gratitude in not having to sit in traffic, knowing that being at home keeps you safe, or being able to put your children to bed every night.
There are certain factors that are making staying home even more challenging. Over and above “cabin fever”, those with difficult family or relationship dynamics, uncertain job status or loss of income are likely to be finding the situation extremely challenging.
Put the basics back in as much as you can.
There are certain elements to keeping mentally healthy that are harder to implement when socially isolating. For example, withdrawal can be a sign of depression and one of the first things we do when helping people manage depression is to help them connect socially with others. We encourage people to get out and about, even if it’s just to go for a walk or enjoy a coffee in a café. With these go-to strategies to lift your mood not possible, it’s essential that you interact and exercise in different ways. Message friends and family, arrange a video call, follow one of the many yoga, mindfulness or exercise programs that are readily available online. Focus on routine and structure to the day and organise this the day before – this makes it easier to get out of bed and into the new rhythm of the day.
How should I be feeling?
It’s normal to be feeling whatever it is you’re feeling right now. Low mood, anxiety, stress, worry, irritability (to name a few) are all to be expected. If you’re finding it hard to manage on your own and/or you can see your emotions and reactions are having an impact on those around you, our team of psychologists are here to help. During social isolation, coronavirus and beyond.
