Grief is a normal reaction to loss and people often describe it getting in the way of life for a while. Indeed grief is frequently considered to never go away completely. Rather, it ebbs and flows, gradually allowing individuals to thrive again despite their loss.
Sometimes the normal grieving process can be disturbed or get “stuck”. This is often the case when your relationship with the person was complicated.
There are times when the way in which the person died can be traumatic. Traumatic bereavement relates to instances where, for example, witnessing the person’s death in an accident, or delivering a stillborn infant.
Our team has the specialist skills to assist with bereavement of this nature. We find EMDR to be particularly helpful in treating traumatic bereavement. Your psychologist will talk to you about the right approach for you.
