Why might a young person need an assessment?

There are many reasons why you or your child’s school might consider an assessment for your child. There may be questions regarding:

Your child’s academic performance (strengths and weaknesses)

Whether your child has a learning disability or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyscalculia 

Whether your child is on the Autistic Spectrum (ASD)

Whether your child has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Developmental delay

If you or your child’s school think your child may be gifted.

Assessments for adults

Adults are often curious as to whether they might have a diagnosis of autism, ADHD and other neurodivergence. Sometimes our children being diagnosed with ADHD or autism might prompt us to see if we too are neurodiverse. In other cases, it is a family member, partner, colleague or health professional  who suggests that we seek an assessment. You might simply be curious about your IQ.
