Dr Walid Abdul-Hamid is a Consultant Psychiatrist with 35 years’ experience in psychiatry across the UK and UAE. Dr. Walid is a rare breed of psychiatrists who not only demonstrates decades of experience in psychiatry per se, but who also has extensive training and experience in psychological approaches, allowing him to deliver tailored and comprehensive treatments for his patients. Dr. Walid has a passion for combining medication and EMDR to address the causes rather than the symptoms of psychiatric conditions. He has a special interest in using medication and psychotherapy to address drug treatment resistant psychiatric conditions such as depression and psychosis.

Dr Walid has a special interest in trauma psychiatry and he has been using EMDR in the treatment of psychological trauma with veteran and non veteran patients. Prior to joining Vivamus, he held the position of Consultant Psychiatrist and EMDR supervisor at Combat Stress – a charity that represents the best psychological trauma service in the UK according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Dr. Walid has had a long interest in Cultural and Ethnic Psychiatry related particularly but not exclusively to Arab and Muslim cultural backgrounds. He was previously the advisor to the Cultural Consultation service at the Centre for Psychiatry, Barts and London Medical school. He hopes to use this valuable experience in the this great city of cultural and religious diversity; Dubai.
